During the summer of 1984, 26039 worked some Kyle services: one of the
very few refurbished locos to do so on everyday service trains before
37s took over.

1S65 1155 Carlisle to Glasgow throughout. It had earlier rescued a strumming
Joe on the 1M01 0740 Glasgow to Carlisle (no definite gen on where from;
may have been Glasgow) and worked this, the return diagram... It then
ran light to Polmadie.
