During the summer of 1984, 26039 worked some Kyle services: one of the very few refurbished locos to do so on everyday service trains before 37s took over.

Storage and disposal
Withdrawn with severe engine defects.
Moved from Eastfield to MC Metals (Glasgow Works) 14/03/91. Appeared on tender list 1993, but was very heavily robbed for spares by then.
Cut MC Metals 10/93.

26039 dragged a DMU on Dundee to Arbroath turns.

18/08/87
1S65 1155 Carlisle to Glasgow throughout. It had earlier rescued a strumming Joe on the 1M01 0740 Glasgow to Carlisle (no definite gen on where from; may have been Glasgow) and worked this, the return diagram... It then ran light to Polmadie.
