26004 remains out of service; 26024 is in service at Bo'ness

June 2008: 26004 remains out of service and sits on accommodation bogies; its bogies are currently under 26024. 26024 back at Bo'ness following its summer on the East Lancs.

26024 came back from Bury in December with a couple of faults on which have been fixed and the loco is back in service. The air tanks were due for the three-yearly inspection on 15 March, and this completed in time for the April gala.

The Bury visit went very well, there was only one failure on the first day of the summer gala when the control air reducing valve stuck (this is what used to happen to 001 coming back from Kyle!) and it got a bit low on power. One of the crew pulled the fuel rack and tripped the overspeed, the reset lever then broke, hence the reason it had to be rescued by D5310. It was back in traffic later the same day. Total mileage covered was 666 miles

Regarding the bogie overhaul, the main item still needing sorted are the wheelsets: we're waiting for a quote. Ten roller bearings have been ordered.

Two traction motors have been sent to Wyko in Glasgow for reconditioning.

The first bogie frame should be moved into the shed fairly soon for cleaning, checking and repainting.
